Moab Revolts
1. Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

3. Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.

4. And Mesha king of Moab was a sheepmaster, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

5. But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

6. And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.

7. And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab hath rebelled against me: wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and my horses as thy horses.

7. "Ary nandeha izy, dia naniraka tany amin' i Josafata, mpanjakan' ny Joda, ka nanao hoe: Ny mpanjakan' i Moaba efa niodina tamiko; koa mba hiaraka amiko va ianao hiady amin' i Moaba? Ary hoy izy: Handeha aho, fa tahaka ny tenanao ihany aho, ka ny oloko dia tahaka ny olonao, ary ny soavaliko dia tahaka ny soavalinao."
8. And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.
8. Et il dit: Par quel chemin monterons-nous? Joram dit: Par le chemin du désert d`Édom.
8. Ary hoy izy: Aiza àry no lalana halehantsika? Ary izy namaly hoe: Ny lalana mamaky ny efitr' i Edoma.
9. So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.
9. "Le roi d`Israël, le roi de Juda et le roi d`Édom, partirent; et après une marche de sept jours, ils manquèrent d`eau pour l`armée et pour les bêtes qui la suivaient."

10. And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!
10. Alors le roi d`Israël dit: Hélas! l`Éternel a appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer entre les mains de Moab.

11. But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.
11. Mais Josaphat dit: N`y a-t-il ici aucun prophète de l`Éternel, par qui nous puissions consulter l`Éternel? L`un des serviteurs du roi d`Israël répondit: Il y a ici Élisée, fils de Schaphath, qui versait l`eau sur les mains d`Élie.

12. And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
12. Et Josaphat dit: La parole de l`Éternel est avec lui. Le roi d`Israël, Josaphat et le roi d`Édom, descendirent auprès de lui.
12. Ary hoy Josafata: Ao amin' izy iny ny tenin' i Jehovah. Dia nidina nankany amin' i Elisa ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely sy Josafata ary ny mpanjakan' i Edoma.
13. And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? get thee to the prophets of thy father, and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD hath called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
13. Élisée dit au roi d`Israël: Qu`y a-t-il entre moi et toi? Va vers les prophètes de ton père et vers les prophètes de ta mère. Et le roi d`Israël lui dit: Non! car l`Éternel a appelé ces trois rois pour les livrer entre les mains de Moab.
13. Ary hoy Elisa tamin' ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely: Moa mifaninona akory izaho sy ianao? Mandehana any amin' ny mpaminanin-drainao sy ny mpaminanin-dreninao ianao. Fa hoy ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely taminy: Tsia, fa Jehovah efa niantso ireto mpanjaka telo ireto mba hatolony eo an-tanan' i Moaba.
14. And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee, nor see thee.
14. Élisée dit: L`Éternel des armées, dont je suis le serviteur, est vivant! si je n`avais égard à Josaphat, roi de Juda, je ne ferais aucune attention à toi et je ne te regarderais pas.

15. But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.
15. Maintenant, amenez-moi un joueur de harpe. Et comme le joueur de harpe jouait, la main de l`Éternel fut sur Élisée.

16. And he said, Thus saith the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.
16. Et il dit: Ainsi parle l`Éternel: Faites dans cette vallée des fosses, des fosses!

17. For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.
17. Car ainsi parle l`Éternel: Vous n`apercevrez point de vent et vous ne verrez point de pluie, et cette vallée se remplira d`eau, et vous boirez, vous, vos troupeaux et votre bétail.
17. Fa izao no lazain' i Jehovah: Tsy hahita rivotra na ranonorana ianareo, nefa ho feno rano io lohasaha io, mba hosotroinareo, dia ianareo sy ny biby fiompinareo ary ny bibinareo.
18. And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
18. "Mais cela est peu de chose aux yeux de l`Éternel. Il livrera Moab entre vos mains;"
18. "Ary ho zavatra kely ihany eo imason' i Jehovah izany; fa hanolotra ny Moabita ho eo an-tananareo koa izy."
19. And ye shall smite every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and mar every good piece of land with stones.
19. vous frapperez toutes les villes fortes et toutes les villes d`élite, vous abattrez tous les bons arbres, vous boucherez toutes les sources d`eau, et vous ruinerez avec des pierres tous les meilleurs champs.
19. Ary handrava ny tanàna mimanda rehetra sy ny tanàna voafidy rehetra ianareo sady hikapa ny hazo tsara rehetra sy hanampina ny loharano rehetra ary hanipy vato amin' ny tany soa rehetra ho fanimbana azy.
20. And it came to pass in the morning, when the meat offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
20. Or le matin, au moment de la présentation de l`offrande, voici, l`eau arriva du chemin d`Édom, et le pays fut rempli d`eau.

21. And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.
21. Cependant, tous les Moabites ayant appris que les rois montaient pour les attaquer, on convoqua tous ceux en âge de porter les armes et même au-dessus, et ils se tinrent sur la frontière.

22. And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:
22. Ils se levèrent de bon matin, et quand le soleil brilla sur les eaux, les Moabites virent en face d`eux les eaux rouges comme du sang.

23. And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.
23. "Ils dirent: C`est du sang! les rois ont tiré l`épée entre eux, ils se sont frappés les uns les autres; maintenant, Moabites, au pillage!"
23. "Dia hoy izy: Ra io! efa nifandringana tokoa ireo mpanjaka ireo, ary efa nifamely izy rehetra; koa mamaboa amin' izao, ry Moaba!"
24. And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
24. Et ils marchèrent contre le camp d`Israël. Mais Israël se leva, et frappa Moab, qui prit la fuite devant eux. Ils pénétrèrent dans le pays, et frappèrent Moab.

25. And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof; howbeit the slingers went about it, and smote it.
25. "Ils renversèrent les villes, ils jetèrent chacun des pierres dans tous les meilleurs champs et les en remplirent, ils bouchèrent toutes les sources d`eau, et ils abattirent tous les bons arbres; et les frondeurs enveloppèrent et battirent Kir Haréseth, dont on ne laissa que les pierres."
25. "Dia nandrava ny tanàna izy; ary samy nanipy vato tamin' ny tany soa rehetra ka nahafeno azy, ary nanampina ny loharano rehetra koa izy sady nikapa ny hazo tsara rehetra, mandra-paha-tsy nisy vato intsony afa-tsy ny tao Kira-haresa ihany; ary na dia io aza dia nohodidinin' ny mpandefa antsamotady ka nasiany."
26. And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.
26. "Le roi de Moab, voyant qu`il avait le dessous dans le combat, prit avec lui sept cents hommes tirant l`épée pour se frayer un passage jusqu`au roi d`Édom; mais ils ne purent pas."
26. "Ary rehefa hitan' ny mpanjakan' i Moaba fa tsy tohany ny ady, dia nitondra fitonjato lahy nahay sabatra nomba azy izy mba hanivakivaka hitsin' ny mpanjakan' i Edoma; nefa tsy afaka izy."
27. Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
27. Il prit alors son fils premier-né, qui devait régner à sa place, et il l`offrit en holocauste sur la muraille. Et une grande indignation s`empara d`Israël, qui s`éloigna du roi de Moab et retourna dans son pays.
